Description

M101 is a classic spiral galaxy about 21 million light years away in the constellation Ursa Major. It appears asymmetrical due to its interaction with nearby galaxies. It is significantly larger and contains many more stars than the milky way, with around a trillion stars. To the upper left is NGC 5422 at about 100 million light years away. There are numerous other small, faint galaxies visible as well.
